Trail Guide: Fairyland Loop

BY ERIC STREMMEL | 11.30.2018

Details:

  • Where: Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
  • Distance: 8 miles round trip
  • Elevation Gain: 1,545 feet Loop
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Dogs: No

Recommendations:

  • Carry plenty of water, 1 quart (liter) for every 2-3 hours of hiking per person, as this hike typically takes 4-5 hours round trip over the 8 mile (12.9 km) length.

In the summer sun screen or large brim hats are recommended year round to avoid sunburn.

  • Carry plenty of water, snacks and maybe a sports drink.
  • Watch for snakes on the trail. Do Not Harass or Provoke Wildlife.
  • Foot traction devices are advised during winter.

Trail Guide

The Fairyland Loop Trail at Bryce Canyon National Park is one of my favorites of any national park trail. The hoodoos and other rock formations along the trail, such as the Tower Bridge, are unlike anything I could have imagined prior to my first visit. You will be looking all around you, all day. Stopping to take pictures, to take in your surroundings, and to make mental notes of what you are seeing are certainly in the itinerary. This hike is not very difficult, however, you should be able to hike 8 miles at an altitude of 7500 feet, with moderate elevation change, and be able to carry a pack holding waters, snacks, and other basic hiking essentials for the 4-5 hour hike to ensure you have a safe, successful trip on this amazing loop trail.
